Walter Harnischfeger competed in the Vero Beach Triathlon for over a decade before becoming the race’s organizer this year. Searching for lodging for his participants during the triathlon weekend, the 20-year Vero Beach resident had ridden by South Beach Place “1000 times”. It just so happened that our hotel was in the perfect location along the race path and very close to the beach for the swimming portion.

Walter stopped by to check us out and we were happy to give him a tour of the property. He made reservations for the few rooms we had available and we welcomed his fellow triathletes for a weekend full of excitement and joy.

“South Beach Place reminds me of a time when life was less frantic. I was around back then so folks like me can really appreciate the midcentury feel South Beach Place is going for.  My grandparents in Madison, WI would vacation in Islamorada in the 50s. We’d get in their Buick and take US-1 all the way down. Your hotel would’ve fit right in with what my grandparents looked for in their vacations.”

Congratulations to all the participants and thank you to Walter and our triathlon guests for making us a part of this very special weekend. You’re all champions in our book.
