Happy New Year! Looking forward to 2023 with a look back...

At South Beach Place, we’re getting ready to ring in 2023 with hope and excitement. And, because we’re such nerds for history, nostalgia, and all things retro, we thought we’d take a look back at New Year’s Eve 1973, 50 years ago!

December 31st, 1972 was the first ever broadcast of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. The television special aired on NBC and featured the now-iconic ball drop (although notably absent was the countdown to midnight) and a live musical performance by Three Dog Night (fast forward to the 25-minute mark for their soulful rendition of “Auld Lang Syne”), as well as live and pre-recorded performances by Helen Reddy, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and Al Green. Check out the video above for the full broadcast!

Locally, 1973 brought Vero Beach its very own Riverside Theatre. Happy 50th birthday to this local landmark of the performing arts! Don’t miss their 50th anniversary special on tickets for the 2022-2023 season, click here to learn more.
